Understanding the Internet and Lawful Interception
This one hour webinar addresses what law enforcement and the intelligence community need to understand about the internet and IP intercept.
Agenda:
- Internet Protocol (IP) Basics: IP Protocol suite, TCP, UDP, Layer 2 protocols and IP addressing
- Internet Players: IP Address Managers, ICANN, IANÁ, Network vs. Internet Service Providers and other players law enforcement and the intelligence community need to know.
- Internet Service Provider (ISP) Infrastructure: The steps from ISP access to web site access and servers required (RAS, RADIUS, DHCP, etc.)
- Voice over IP (VoIP): What's VoIP, Types of VoIP services, gateways, softswitches and SIP.
- Peer to Peer (P2P): What's P2P, first generation deployments, Napster vs. today's P2P, BitTorrent, eDonkey and why P2P presents challenges to law enforcement and the intelligence community.
- Skype: How Skype works from central login server access to the encrypted peer to peer connection and Skype intercept challenges and how it can be blocked.
- Lawful Interception Options: Review of circuit switched vs. IP intercept and network intercept points law enforcement and the intelligence community need to understand.
- Deep Packet Inspection (DPI): What's DPI, why its needed for IP intercept, how it works and how it can be used for P2P blocking and cyber security.
- IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS): What's IMS, why its deployment is promoted by telecom operators, architecture basics and what new intercept capabilities are available to law enforcement and the intelligence community.
- LEA and IC Challenges: In summary what can be done to address internet intercept deploying ISS infrastructure, what can't be done without new legislation and future challenges law enforcement and the intelligence community faces.
