Investigating Online Social Media Influenced Criminal Flash Mobs

While flash mobs have been around for almost a decade, law enforcement has recently been challenged with the phenomenon of criminal flash mobs. The ability for an individual to simultaneously contact scores or hundreds of people via online social media presents a command and control capability that is unprecedented.

Many in the law enforcement community are scrambling to find solutions for this emergent concern to public safety and order. This Webinar will focus on the history and evolution of flash mobs from fun and harmless pranks to mechanisms for property crime and violence. The Webinar will then look at the social media tools that are being exploited to facilitate criminal flash mobs. Finally, specific tools and best practices for law enforcement prevention, interdiction, and investigation of criminal flash mobs will be explored.
